Hello Robin,
Possums are known to eat birds eggs and nestlings and parrots won't use a nest box that has had a possum in it because of it.

Thanks, Peter - again last night I awoke to Heron squawking about 4:30am, and I once again I spotted the possum maybe 6-8 feet from my nest. It retreated under my torch-light ... not sure whether because of the Heron's defenses or disturbed by the torch. Looks like the parents will have their work cut out defending their eggs/young with such nightly visits from the hopeful possum.

Regards ... Robin
