Jude,

Definitely a juvenile Goldfinch. Do you still have the specimen or have you disposed of it. It would make another nice contribution to the CSIRO collection at the ANWC.

Cheers,

Mark

Dear all,

Road kill at Currawang.  Is 11.5 cm long.  Wing span in flight could be 14/15 cm.  Could this be a juvenile European Goldfinch?  My refs say they all have the red disc on the face.  Can't find anything else that has the bright yellow band on the wing and the white tail detail though.  Was on the road near a MFF of Dusky Woodswallows, European Finches, Richard's Pipits and something else similar to this little one that I couldn't get a bead on.  Dusky swooped me as I bent to pick this little one up.

Respectfully,

Jude Hopwood.
