Philip,
I went there the afternoon after you first posted about the location, so
I guess the afternoon of 8 December. On that occasion I didn't see the
Buff-banded Rail, but did see three Baillon's Crakes and one Australian
Spotted Crake.

I wonder has anyone else: tried / succeeded / failed to find this
Buff-banded Rail at this spot. I have been there three times since then,
each time for about 20 minutes (last time Monday 19-12). I haven't seen
the
Buff-banded Rail again but I have seen the Baillon's Crake on two of the
three times, including the last time.

Today I had about 30 minutes available in Tuggeranong, so I went to the
little marshy pond behind the dog training area on Rowland Rees
Crescent,
near the Tuggeranong Town Centre. I parked the car next to the archives
building to look down on the pond. I didn't get out of the car. I would
suggest that as a strategy. Very little there for the first ten minutes.
Then a Buff-banded Rail appeared at the edge of the reeds though in full
view for about 15 minutes. It would have been very photogenic, if I had
a
camera. It spent most of the time preening, walked out onto the pond
once
and lifted its wings then went back. I last saw it as it flew over the
pond
towards me to disappear in the long grass just inside the fence. Also in
the
middle of that time a Baillon's Crake walked across the pond. I found a
Spotted Crake at this little pond on the "blitz" day.
