A pleasant spot for a picnic while on the road, but not a rich bird-life at this stage, so far as I could see.  I had hoped to see more activity around the receding shoreline in the evenings and early morning.  Relatively few numbers of common species were spread over a large area.  The pelicans and cormorants suggest quite a few fish are in there (perhaps it was stocked at one stage) but the absence of swans indicates under-surface veg has not developed.  No doubt the management will be giving thought to how to regulate the water cycle now it has responsibility for such a large area of celebrated wetland.  Anyway, a convenient site for Canberrans to keep an eye on.
