Hi, if any of you are heading down to the Riverina over next few weeks
- the Murrumbidgee Field Nats did a bird count at Wattle Dam at Binya
Forest last Saturday - between 6am and 10am they counted over 450
birds coming in to the dam, including 110 Turquoise parrots. I know in
the past I've mentioned Wattle Dam to a few people as one of my
favourite "sit and see" spots. Easiest access to the dam is from the
road which runs between Binya Forest and Cocoparra NP, and the dam is
only about 100m into the pine forest, beside the track. It's not a
huge dam, and there are some nice shady trees close by. Entry off the
road is signposted. I've also seen Crimson chats at the dam, various
woodswallows, babblers, doves, other parrots... The MFN recorded 52
species in their 4 hours at the dam, according to the report on
Eremaea.
