Yes (as I established - and published ten years ago), in Canberra,
February is the peak time of year that young Aust Hobbies leave the nest
and parents are feeding them. From Margaret's observation: if they
looked the same size, then they were probably both of the same sex.

This year in February I observed two Aust hobbies beside each other on a
branch. While they looked the same size, one fed the other.

Yes the fledgling kestrels should still be fed by their parents. For 2
to 7 weeks according to Penny Olsen's book (Table 5.5). I would not
think that any raptors would not still feed young for some time after
fledging. Maybe vultures(?)

Five young kestrels who were raised in the nest near to the gully at
Callum Brae, have flown. They were beautiful. Do the parents continue
to feed them? or do they now have to fend for themselves? Anyone know?

Also kookaburra's nest at CB

The nest of the white faced heron at Campbell Park has been empty for
some time. Last report was from Lindel, of 2 small chicks perched on
edge of nest. Hopefully the parents may breed again in the same nest,
after doing it up a bit

Elizabeth
