BLITZ UPDATE 24 OCT 11

We’re making good progress with the adoption of sites for COG’s bird blitz next weekend - 29-30 October. However, lots of prime locations have still not been spoken for. If you can spend some time on that weekend counting birds in any of the following locations – or others shown as unclaimed on the Excel spreadsheet under the blitz icon – let me know on or by phone – 6254 6520.

In the west: Woodstock NR; McQuoids Hill NR

In the east: Fairbairn Pines

In the north: Yerrabi Pond; Black Mountain; north Mulligans Flat

In the south: Gibraltar Falls; Woods Reserve; Smokers Trail; Yankee Hat; Yerrabi Track; Settlers Trail.

In addition to the above, we have fairly thin coverage of a few major sites, including Tidbinbilla. And the major nature reserves could all do with additional blitzers as they are generally the richest in bird numbers. As well, if you are travelling out of town to blitz, think about stopping if time permits to do a few roadside surveys on the way. And don’t forget you can record as an “incidental” record any bird you happen to see in passing.

Those birders who are unable or unwilling to commit in advance, just survey please, wherever! I’ll try and update the list of who is going where again next Thursday.
