The sewage ponds at Fyshwick were covered in an earlier part of this helpful series which is intended mainly for the non-Canberran, who might be puzzled by references to such places.  This pond has recently received attention because a  small number of sandpipers has recently turned up there, something that we see every couple of years.  These are Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, the most likely of the migrant waders to appear, apart from Latham’s Snipe.  Some other common birds can also be seen in this photograph.   Contrary to what some people will believe, the dotterel at the lower right has not been compressed by the boot of some heavy-footed photographer blundering about the margins.  The bird, rather , is performing a distraction display.  Mind you if a photographer does stand on it while it’s doing that, it will be its own fault.
