Eight COG members enjoyed a successful trip to the
Capertee Valley. We all camped on Carol Probert(our guide)'s well timbered
property. The winds that swept across the state did not penetrate the valley and
the rain was kind to us.
All up we saw 114 species. Birding highlights
were 8 Regent Honeyeaters which were calling to each other with one pair
observed nesting, several groups of up to 30 Plum-headed Finch, a Rockwarbler,
Turquoise Parrots, a male Painted Button-quail, many Hooded Robins constantly
spied by Alex McLachlan and light & dark morphs of both Little Eagle
and White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike. Noisy Friarbirds were very aggressive and
seemed to be everywhere.
