Following the waterbirds can be a distraction from other things going on in the area, meaning the old weed-infested dairy precinct up the southern slope.  Goldfinches nest-building and a raspy but generally invisible greenfinch calling persistently.  The unlikely treetop juxtaposition is as it occurred, except I have added the Grey Teal in recognition of the prevalence of this most abundant duck (perhaps 100 in the area).  Surprisingly the New Hollands have left their preferred grevilleas and a dozen or so are colonising the weedy slope.  Also prominent in the thistly patch, a  caterpillar-eating silvereye and an arachnivorous scrubwren, both birds being in the area in some numbers.  I notice starlings are nesting in the old dairy building.
