I have just seen an Eastern spinebill 'dive-bombing' a sparrow that was
sitting on the rim of our bird feeder. When the sparrow flew off the
spinebill put his head on the side and slid his bill along the rim of the
feeder as if drinking - there wasn't any water on the feeder but there is a
birdbath about 60 cm away from the feeder. The sparrow (or another)
returned to the feeder at which point the spinebill again began attacking
the intruder who was joined by another sparrow. The spinebill continued the
attack for another 30 seconds to a minute until he had driven both sparrows
away but this time did not return to the feeder.
