I agree, the 'male' bird was slightly smaller than the female. My suggestion that the smaller bird might be an immature female is based on the colour and patterning of the wings. There is no hint of the pale spotting that should be indicative of either an adult male or juvenile of either sex; instead it has the same greenish tinged barred effect that the adult female has.
