Mulligans Flat
Monday 5/9/2011. Action Bus number 59 (weekdays) takes you to the
Forde/main entrance now, from Belconnen.
,
Dams/ Woolshed: A Noisy friarbird, pair of scarlet robins, 2 Aust grebes
and black ducks.
,
Top of Hill (Old Coach Rd): Large MFF. 4 varied sitellas. Pair of golden
whistlers, grey currawong, 3 striated pardalotes and 5 spotted
pardalotes. 1 welcome swallow, 2 WT treecreepers, 2 spinebills, 4
striated thornbills, 2 YFH, 5 silvereyes, 5 grey fantails.
,
Line of Trees (N/S)/Curlew gate: 2 western gerygones calling loudly, 6
striated and 4 spotted pardalotes, 2 WT treecreeper, 4 weebills, 2 YFH
singing, 3 brown headed honeyeaters, 1 welcome swallow, 6 fairy martins
(a large cloud front was passing over heading E), 1 grey butcherbird, 1
Noisy friarbird, 8 WWC, 1 white eared honeyeater.
3 brown treecreepers were close to the Curlew gate in a heavily timbered
corner of the fence. One bird entered a burnt-out hollow (~5m up) in one
of the bigger E.mannifera momentarily (ih??) then flew to a fallen tree
close by and sat there for >5min then fed in the vicinity. The behaviour
seemed similar to Margaret Leggoe's report of BT breeding in 2009. But I
didn't want to hang around to make sure, and possibly disturb the birds.
,
On the way back (Corner of OC Rd and Grassy Rd): flushed a speckled
warbler from a nest by accident.
Very few red wattlebirds and my first noisy friarbirds for the season.
Winter migrants still around, while spring migrants are turning up.
