At dusk yesterday (17:58 to be precise) I heard loud wings overhead
and looked up to see a micro bat (smaller than a mastiff bat but
larger than a pipistrelle) hawking insects. Then the source of the
loud wings appeared, a Pied Currawong in a power dive that just
missed in its attempt to snatch the bat out of the air. After
missing the bat it gave chase for a few seconds but soon gave up
because the bat was too nimble.
It does not surprise me that a Currawong would do this, I just hadn't
witnessed it before.
