These are the Reporting Rates (sightings per month/Surveys per
month), using data going back to 1974. As you can see, the lowest
rates are in April and October, but the rates through the middle of
winter are quite high.
I would be interested to hear people's views as to why this pattern
has emerged from the data.
Paul,
Is it possible that in April/May and October there just aren't as
many people surveying?
I have permanent Red Wattle Birds in my garden too, but did realise
from previous comments that some of them are migratory and others are
permanent. My local ones nest in nearby trees each year, although it
varies as to which Eucalypt they choose each year. I appreciate them
a lot at the moment as they tend to pester the Currawongs out of the
garden right now, which leaves any smaller birds or nestlings in the
area with a bit less chance of unexpected death. <grin>
I was at a friend's last week and we discovered a White-Browed
Scrubwren nest with eggs...... thankfully our presence didn't
permanently deter the parents and they were safely there the next day.
Cheers.
