Prue and I with Dave and Kathy Cook managed to squeeze our June survey in yesterday morning. We weren't expecting too much given it was winter, but after a slow start it turned out to be an excellent day. 42 species was a high count for winter and included a new species for this survey, a Blackbird! Some species that we have few previous records for were Diamond Firetail (4) and a female Flame Robin at site 1, Red-browed Finch (4) and a Scarlet Robin pair at site 2. Otherwise a Wedge-tailed Eagle and a Brown Goshawk, 2 Kestrels, Speckled Warbler at 2 sites, Mistletoebird at 2 sites, 2 Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes. A nice range of small birds included 4 spp of thornbills, plenty of Weebills and Spotted Pardalotes (but few Striateds). Very few honeyeaters apart from Noisy Miners, just White-plumed at site 1 as usual, and a single Eastern Spinebill.
