The current correct name is Brooks Hill Reserve (no apostrophe, and no
"e" in Brooks). This is the form of name used in NSW and ACT govt
docs, and that was what appeared on the signs.
Interestingly, the hill was referred to as both Brook's Hill and
Brooks' Hill in the early part of 20th century, according to some very
early articles from the Queanbeyan newspaper of the time, which
reported various road and rail accidents.
One also refers to a landslip on the railway line, near the Brook's
Hill railway tunnel - is there still a railway tunnel there? It was
apparently the largest of 3 railway tunnels between Queanbeyan and
Bungendore, at over 300 yards.
It seems there were more people in the area many years ago - there was
a proposal in late 1800s to establish a school at Brook's Hill.
The reserve is also very old - I saw references to someone offering to
clear weeds in the Brook's Hill Reserve in 1923 when it was a
travelling stock reserve
