Thanks everyone, for your support.

His name is "Pepper" and he is a free flight bird (ie primarily lives inside, but has access to the backyard through a 'bird door' when i am home), who has spent the occasional night outside over the past few years. Until now, he has always returned the next morning. He is reasonably confident outside, but this time he obviously went further into Hawker than he's been before and has become lost (probably chased by a Magpie or Currawong). Last Saturday as i was looking for him, he was looking for me (circling the area and investigating groups of people, from the reports of people i met), but we never managed to meet up. Ironically, if i'd sat in the first location in which he was sighted, rather than looking for him, i'd have bumped into him when he returned 2 hours later. But of course i didn't know that then.

My main worry is the lack of sightings since Saturday following the -3 oC temperature that night. He's never liked the cold. Although on the Sunday there weren't the crowds of sports players to attract him either. (Not to mention goshawks, magpies, currawongs, cats....the list goes on!)

I've had an add up on the RSPCA website since last Friday, have had posters out (and i changed them all last night to include a reward on your suggestion, thanks Heather!) at all the local shops and i've done many hours of pounding the pavement calling for him. I've stopped that now, as i really don't know which area he's in now and i suspect the residents of Hawker would be getting quite annoyed at my repeated shouting of "Pepper!". Unfortunately, it took until yesterday for me to figure out that birdwatchers are probably the best people to ask about unusual bird sightings!

And i'll also put an add into Allclassifieds, though i too am worried about anyone finding him wanting to keep him - he's very tame and packed with cheeky personality. Sun Conures are also not the cheapest or easiest birds to buy in Canberra.

Anyway, again thanks for your support and please let me know if anyone hears anything about him.

Cheers

Marissa

Don't lose hope too soon Marissa - my bright yellow handraised Cockatiel went
missing last year for three days and three cold nights and I assumed he was
gone forever (I've seen goshawks catch pigeons near my place in MacGregor and
have rescued a tame cockatiel from our local gang of magpies) - but he landed
on a friendly person's shoulder at Strathnairn behind Holt and they found my ad
in AllClassfieds.com.au! He didn't have a feather out of place, and was
extremely glad to see me.

So I highly recommend putting out ads and offering a reward. The people who
found my boy really wanted to keep him.

What is your bird's name?

Heather.

Hello

This is a bit of a long shot ... My Sun Conure went missing on Friday in
Scullin and was sighted 3 times in central Hawker on Saturday, but not since.

On the extremely unlikely chance that he is still somehow coping with the
freezing overnight temperatures, i was wondering if anyone in the south or
southwestern Belconnen area might have seen him? I can supply a photo if it
would help, but i suspect he'd stand out like a sore thumb to anyone with any
knowledge of Canberra's birds.

If you do hear anything, please call me on 0402 47 4409.

Thank you.

Marissa Harris
