Galore.  Yet another interesting word.  Apparently from a Gaelic phrase meaning 'to sufficiency' but now used in the sense 'in abundance'.  It has literary associations, ’Whisky Galore’ being a novel by Compton Mackenzie and ‘Pussy Galore’ being a character in Ian Fleming’s novel ‘Goldfinger’, that character being played in the film by Honor Blackman.  It has also been applied for commercial purposes, as in ‘Barbeques Galore’.  What is interesting is that what might appropriately be regarded as ‘galore’ depends on the noun.   For example two cockatoos on the median strip of Parkes Way would hardly be ‘Cockatoos Galore’ but one might well report a day that included a Painted Snipe at Kelly Swamp and another Painted Snipe at North Watson Wetland under the heading  ‘Painted Snipe Galore!’.

Robin Central, by all means.  We have previously noted the curious provenance of ‘Finch Central’.   (Archive for 13 May 2010, if anyone is interested)

Today at lunchtime in the ANBG a visit to the gully that includes the rainforest in its lower parts yielded no fewer than 4 species of robins.

At the edge of the rainforest Eastern Yellow (4) , Pink (1), Rose (3) and a little higher located by song Scarlet (1) Robin.

Could we have a new Robin Central?
