The fence certainly has a history. It was there with the Freckled Ducks in 2005 –
However it was not there when pelicans were pelicans (early 2004) -
The log shown there is the ‘Pelican Log’ indicated in ‘View from Cygnus Hide’ on the COG website. That log has since disappeared. I am not sure when that view was taken, maybe 2005. The fence was not there then, and has come and gone since. It is a picket-and-wire affair that is deployed according to the requirements of the stock licence-holders.

I have found a message (on a discussion group other than the chatline) talking about the fence being erected in July 2004 which accords with my memory. It was supposed to be removed when the water was deep enough to stop the cattle walking across the swamp.

Come on Geoffrey, that fence has been there more than 2 years. Remember the photos that you took of the spoonbills, perching on the fence? You probably have photos from years ago of that fence.
Swamp historians are needed. Wouldn't we remember it being erected?
