We camped at Cocoparra NP for 3 nights on the way home from the COG campout at Willandra.  The birds were brilliant, in terms of both diversity and abundance – we recorded 78 species which included just one ‘waterbird’.  Some of the highlights included Peregrine Falcons, Blue Bonnets, Budgerigars, Turquoise Parrots, White-browed and Grey-crowned Babblers, Red-capped and Hooded Robins, Painted Button-Quail, Brown Treecreepers, Emus, Double-barred Finches, Splendid Fairy-wrens, White-backed Swallows, Rufous Songlark, Yellow-plumed Honeyeater and a juv Black-eared Cuckoo being fed by Speckled Warblers – see David’s photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/kookr/5674656835/

Cocoparra, just 4 hours from Canberra, is a great place to camp (no fees) – lovely sites with abundant revegetation, clean toilets, tables and free gas BBQs.  There were a max of 2 other campers at any time (and none on the Friday night, with the royal wedding providing an unanticipated bonus).  Highly recommended (but perhaps not at the moment for anyone with a mouse phobia).
