Hi

I was sitting having coffee on the covered verandah at the Botanic Gardens this morning, facing the foot bridge. Just next to the bridge, on the side closer to the Cafe is a tall gum tree. For some time I noticed what looked like wood chips flying out of the tree and onto the ground, making quite a mulch to one side of it, but couldn't see what was producing it. It turned out to be a galah, not much above head height, on the other side, madly excavating a hole in the tree - digging a new nest or refurbishing an old? If so, isn't that an odd time of the year to be doing so? The hole must have been quite deep because only part of its tail feathers were showing.

Also seen from Hindmarsh Drive, a large Wedge Tailed Eagle flying over the wooded area of Red Hill (about 2.30).
