Shepards Lookout, while still fairly active, was
very different today compared to last week. Fewer species overall even
though a couple of species recorded today were not seen last week. The Dusky
Woodswallows were absent as were most of the Tree Martins and Welcome
Swallows. Rainbow Bee-eaters were still present. Most noticeable
were the large flocks of Red Wattlebirds (50+ in some) often with Pied
Currawongs (up to 10). While I say flocks, it was hard to tell if it was
the same birds coming and going. I watched one large flock head towards
the Murrumbidgee, land for a short period, come back and land for a short
while then head towards the Murrumbidgee again only to
land about 500m away and return again. Large flocks of Starlings
were also in the area. At least 2 Leaden Flycathchers were also
present.
