Of topic? - not exactly. The cattle - reintroduced by the Victorian Nationals (and the "High Country Cattlemen") shortly after getting into power in Victoria, are a damaging factor in the delicate Alpine environment. The cattle ruin alpine bogs - the source of the pure water we like to think runs from the mountains. And they probably promote rather than reduce the frequency of fires. All in search of a cultural myth of the Man from Snowy River. http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-national/greens-act-on-alpine-grazing-20110228-1bb0w.html Lets hope the Federal Environment Minister uses his real and actual powers under the EPBC Act to remove the cattle.
