The beginning of the second paragraph was reminiscent of experience in Tanzania where the House Crow (out competing the Pied Crow and most everything else) was almost eradicated by a nest-shotgunning program until the donor funding ceased.    Unlike Alice Springs, there wasn't a community body to pick up the Government's slack so when we lived there in 2001 - 3 the House Crow was back in full force and it was rare to see a Pied Crow within 200km of the Coast.

In light of the disgraceful failure of the Queanbeyan and ACT authorities to prevent Spotted Doves expanding their ranges and increasing in numbers, I thought that readers may find interest in this report, from BirdingAus, on Alice Springs' experience.
