the COG Photo Gallery uses Eudynamys orientalis for Eastern Koel
Birdpedia recognises Eastern Koel Eudynamys orientalis bird found on our East Coast; but it also recognises "Asian Koel" Eudynamys scolopaceus as being a separate species, with an Asian distribution, including "Vagrant to Christmas Island".
Beyond that I shall let the COG members with their HANZAB references take over and give definitive opinions.
I find it safe to follow the COG listings.

Received: Sunday, 23 January, 2011, 8:50 AM are still calling in the Chapman/Rivett area, where compared with some other suburbs they have never been particularly conspicuous and usually are gone by the new year (at best just into it). One was repeatedly giving the well known call round 7 am from the Cassia Pl area Rivett (where it also was calling before Xmas), and 15-30 minutes later another briefly gave both this and the “wirra wirra” call from the Chapman shops/Rene St area (well over a km away). They were also recorded from these places during the week, often giving the wirra wirra call.
