Elizabeth,
A remarkably open nest so I doubt it is a White-browed Scrubwren. It looks
more like a finch nest but again most finches don't build in such open
positions. The only species of finches found near Perth are the Red-eared
Firetail and the introduced Red-browed Finch which builds fairly bulky but
loosely woven grass nests. The Malurus wrens build a dome nest but again
generally well hidden. I can't think of any other species that would nest in
a situation like that shown in your photograph.
