like a Syrphid fly (hover fly) (Family Syrphidae) to me but I don't know which
species and don't have time to search the web just now ...

anyone ID this fly for me? I have
looked at European wasp pictures on the internet, and I have satisfied myself it
is not a EW. Taken at JWNR just
before the rain started.
