A group of us headed out to Tidbinbilla on Saturday morning. The day before the
reserve had been closed due to the heavy rains.
The reserve was closed when we arrived so we walked the Birrigai Time Trail. Of
note were Dusky Woodswallow, Little Raven, Pallid Cuckoo, Wedge-tailed Eagle,
Striped Skink and Cunningham's Skink.
The reserve had re-opened by the time we returned to the visitor centre so we
headed for Mountain Creek.
The drive in produced Southern Whiteface, Brown Goshawk and Long-necked Turtle.
As expected the Cascades were spectacular with the amount of water coming down
the mountain. Lower down beside the creek the resident pair of Pilotbirds were
vocal but remained hidden. Shining Bronze-Cuckoo and Sacred Kingfisher were
also heard. All up a good morning's birding.
