Continuing on the discussion of Koels, there was one calling in east Kambah on Sunday night - I woke a number of times throughout the night and early morning and always heard him. From memory, I have heard Koels calling, on and off, since a few weeks before the blitz weekend. Then yesterday when I was riding home from work I heard shrill alarm calls from a backyard and then witnessed both male and female Koels being chased across Summerland Circuit by Magpie-larks. This is actually the first time I've seen this species, so it was nice to see both genders - and I love the long tails!

Kind regards

Matthew Frawley
