I am
curious about the mention here that "so it actually
punched out with closed fists". Did I miss something? Is there
evidence that this is what is happening? I don't have evidence either way so I
am willing to be convinced. I note that a similar discussion occurred recently
about whether the Peregrine Falcon strikes its prey with closed fists. This
appears to be an old myth and a rather dopey thing to do - when armed with
talons adapted to do the killing and catching.

Dear COG members
I have sent the last two Goshawk messages to
a friend in Canada who had commented previously about being "whacked" by a
Goshawk in his forests there.
The most recent message included
Geoffrey's wonderful face-on view of a swooping Goshawk (now deleted from this
relayed message).
His response is attached.
Cheers
