I am curious about the mention here that "so it actually punched out with closed fists". Did I miss something? Is there evidence that this is what is happening? I don't have evidence either way so I am willing to be convinced. I note that a similar discussion occurred recently about whether the Peregrine Falcon strikes its prey with closed fists. This appears to be an old myth and a rather dopey thing to do - when armed with talons adapted to do the killing and catching.

I have sent the last two Goshawk messages to a friend in Canada who had commented previously about being "whacked" by a Goshawk in his forests there.
The most recent message included Geoffrey's wonderful face-on view of a swooping Goshawk (now deleted from this relayed message).
