Funnel web spp and especially their webs superficially look like the very common Black House Spider (Badumna Insignis). You will find Badumna in window crevices, etc. While Badumna are somewhat venemous, they are unrelated and beloing to different branches of Arachnidae. I have never seen a funnel web in or around houses in Canberra although I have heard that they are occasionally found. After rain in summer would be a likely time.
