Hi Stephen,

In Sydney, Bintel https://www.bintelshop.com.au/welcome.htm is the place. They have all kinds you can try out. I bought mine there recently. I asked a question about replacing binoculars on this list a couple of months ago and got lots of helpful suggestions which will be in the archive on the COG website if your friend is interested.
