I was driving my mother to the airport today (after her being here for
my wedding). As I drove along the Monaro Highway, at the point at which
it goes closest to Dairy Road sewage ponds, I went right under a Black
Kite flying over the Canturf farm. It was quite low and close and no
doubt about the ID. This was at about 12:40 pm.

Subject: Black Kite and Swift Parrots at Newline
I was out at Newline at 7.30 this morning and found 3 Swift Parrots
feeding quietly in a euc at the top end of the paddock. They took off in
a south westerly direction.
As I was leaving around 9.30, there was a commotion of white cockatoos
harassing a raptor as it came over the road from the military range. At
first I thought Little Eagle but the droopy wing shape was more
suggestive of Whistling Kite, until I saw the tail and it was clearly a
Black Kite. A fairly dark bird with indistinct underwing pattern. It
flew over Newline but was chased back over the military range by the
cockatoos, and disappeared from sight. Difficult to know whether it will
hang around the area - the rubbish dump might be worth checking out?
