Recent discussion about
zygodactyls included the comment ( I think) that cuckoos are zygodactyls which
surprised me until I recalled that a couple of autumns ago we had close-up
views of a pair of Horsfield’s Bronze-Cuckoos gleaning small black caterpillars
from casaurina foliage near Uriarra Crossing. Their movements, like those of
their prey, were slow but nonetheless acrobatic and involved much inversion.
