“My” magpie pair are just putting the finishing touches to their nest, fully one month earlier than usual. They failed twice last season – once when their nest tree was disturbed by municipal tree loppers; they tried again in the same nest and were feeding at least one young but it failed to fledge. So perhaps the early start is to compensate for last year’s failure. Or? b
