Howdy All,
A first sighting ever here for me today in Higgins..... there are
currently a couple of Rainbow Lorikeets in a Eucalyptus tree across
the road from my place. The high calls alerted me to something
unusual for here in the area. The tree is just starting to flower,
and will be magnificent within the next while as it comes into
bloom. It has a very unusual grey bark on a tall straight tree.....
definitely not a usual Eucalypt for around here, but no idea of what
species it is. It looks like it will be covered in flowers, so if it
is already drawing birds from the surrounding area, who knows what it
will draw in the future. Currently there are currawongs,
wattlebirds, the rainbow lorikeets and some other small birds I
couldn't get the binoculars onto to identify. I think the tree is
probably still only about 10% out in flower as yet. If others are
interested, email me and I'll give you the address so you can have a look.
Anyway, hopefully of interest to someone in the area. I'm guessing
the RLs are a couple from the Hawker group, out for a fine dining
experience here in Higgins. <grin>
Cheers.
