Thank you Philip. I won't be able to do much for the next few weeks but certainly the idea of an overlay is something I will consider.

Martin,
That
is a very good innovation. Well done. Something I never got close to doing, but
I thought about it and I think Ian Baird did too, years ago, before me.
That was the basis for the process (in 1992-93) of collecting data as to
location of GBS Sites and name of observer into one database that was consistent
between years. (That system had not existed before). Including information on
the birds only started years later. If mapping like that is something you
are thinking to develop and use again, I wonder if an overlay of a very
simple map or even a crude illusion of a map of Canberra could be superimposed.

[canberrabirds] superb parrots - wanniassa
In terms of the
sightings of Superb Parrots in the GBS up to Year 28 this is a slight extension
to the SE. The location of sightings is represented in terms of latitude
and longitude in the attached image. The latitude and longitude in the
axes are expressed as decimal degrees (eg 35.10 is 35 degrees and 6 minutes
South; 149.20 is 149 degrees and 12 minutes East). I am still
experimenting with how to represent such material in ACCESS/ EXCEL Charts, so
its a bit messy where there are multiple observations at one location but I
think the picture is clear enough as a broad illustration.

I thought I must have been mistaken when my first thought was
"superb parrots" as two birds flew over my yard late yesterday afternoon as I
hung out the washing - but no, I've just been outside, and a single superb
parrot was sitting in a neighbour's tree, calling loudly. I've not seen them
in Wanniassa before.
