The pair of swans on the pond at the Parkes Way x Coranderrk Street roundabout in Civic have produced two newly hatched cygnets.

It is an assumption on my part that it is the same pair that nested on the pond last year, starting with nest building in January but taking a long time to actually produce anything - the archives will show the reports. But it would seem more likely than not, to me, that the same pair rather than a different pair would find this rather unusual breeding site acceptable.

I first noticed a new nest at the beginning of last week, but there were two young cygnets (I think there are only two but there may be three - I make my observations from a moving motorbike in peak hour traffic!) on Friday. Today the adults appeared to be finishing a second nest of fresh green weed, with the cygnets swimming around them.
