A king parrot visited my bird feeder this afternoon, and because I should have been doing something more important, grabbed my camera.  I soon became aware of the funny way it was swallowing, with neck outstretched vertically, and craning just its head forward, closing its eye at the same time.  Very hard to illustrate without a video, but imagine what it feels like when compelled to swallow a pill that is much too big.  On closer inspection, it appeared to have a swelling on its throat that covered a fair area, but not very prominent.

I should be able to offer some kind of an explanation as to what this may be, but really don’t know.  Perhaps that feather out of place indicates a penetrating wound site, hence the consequent swelling.
