Anyone travelling south along the Hume H’way this long w’end might find it worth stopping at the ironbark reserve in Mates Gully, just S of Tarcutta. I stopped briefly there on my way back to Canberra yesterday. The ironbarks were in full flower and the reserve raucous with the calls of literally hundreds of Noisy Friarbirds. I saw very little else but a more leisurely visit, not in the middle of an unseasonably warm day, might be profitable. b
