I spent today in the foothills of the ranges. In the morning walked
the Cascades and Lyrebird trails at Tidbinbilla. The creeks were
overflowing and creating some wonderful waterfalls. This was the first
time I had walked the trails since before the fires and was amazed at
the number of healthy tree ferns.
Plenty of birdlife around including flame robin, leaden flycatcher,
immature rufous whistler and lyrebird.
Along the Turkey Hill trail i came across a pair of southern
whitefaces in a MFF.
Probably the most common bird everywhere today was the grey fantail.
And all the rufous fantail must have already left for warmer climes.
An afternoon wander through the Uriarra woodlands reserve (name
according to sign on gate) produced half a dozen vocal white-throated
gerygones plus dusky woodswallows and a single martin - not sure which
species.
And on Saturday a little eagle flew over me while driving along the
GDE near Kaleen.
Cheers
Marnix
