Nicki's comment is a good individual observation of a well documented phenomenon. That is, during Autumn and Spring, the number of species in suburban Canberra always increases. This is because of the change over period. This is shown on the graph as Figure 10 on the GBS Report. Also pointed out that as I considered this phenomenon to be of significant importance to understanding the bird year in Canberra, if not just nice and useful to know, that it is repeated on the back cover of the book.

The first Golden Whistler for the season was calling in our garden in Cook this morning. At the same time a Superb Parrot was calling, a rather unusual overlap of seasonal species.
