As to Weddins, Richard will have
the records, but I believe they have nested at the site and a couple are seen
there regularly, although not every year, in the warmer months.
Steve Wilson has Canberra
records in 1971, 1980 and 1984. I hope Con will not mind my mentioning his
mention to me of his more recent sighting at Scottsdale.
Speaking of Wilsons, I am sure
some of you will have heard the description of Denis’s potato-watching
feats at Robertson on local ABC this morning. So much going on. g

That is very nice but with regard to your 2nd last sentence, they
are not that regular at Weddin Mountains either, so that many is surely
unusual. By that I mean if they were regularly there, then the additional 175
km would not be a lot. I would ordinarily expect them further north or west.

At the Weddins site at the weekend there was an
unusually large number of White-backed Swallows. The below pic shows 17
but I’ve another with more than 20 perched while yet more were in flight,
some at the limit of visual range, so a reasonable estimate would be 30.
The site is only about 175km away in a straight line, so it is surprising that
this mobile species is recorded so rarely around Canberra. If you only
get a brief view of a distant swallow, these can look very like Tree Martins.
