Surely a Diamond Python. It is a bit concerning that: "The locals don't
know what it is". How common are they? I can only recall ever seeing one
on the NSW south coast. But I only visit there, and it is easy not to
see a snake.

And yes they do eat birds and mammals and presumably reptiles also.
Cogger's book says feeds on a variety of terrestrial vertebrates.

This beauty was photographed in the bed of the Towamba River at
Burragate (near Eden, NSW). The locals don't know what it is. In an
attempt to make it more relevant to the list, is it looking for birds to
eat? I think I resized the images to be less than 100 kb. Apologies if I
