I took my deckchair along and sat watching Crake Alley. At 7.35 (just after sunset) a Lewin's Rail started calling loudly and I located it standing in front of the reeds opposite. It was already nearly belly deep in the water, and after receiving no reply and looking up and down the creek it flew across and dropped down into the grass on the near shore, vanishing. About 30 seconds visibility in all.

Earlier I had been watching 2 3/4 grown fox cubs stalking along the creek bank opposite. A hazard for crakes and all birds I guess.

Leaving, there were two Hobbies and a Dollarbird hawking over the cow paddocks near the car-park. I saw one of the Hobbies catch and eat a large dragonfly in flight.
