The cisticola is a bird that has been around in some numbers but not mentioned much.  The males are little clowns with their absurdly short tails they moult into in spring and their unlikely ‘zzzzt .... ponk’ calls.  Below from margins of Kellys this morning.  (Incidentally I can confirm Elizabeth’s Spotted Crake at the spot she mentioned.)

 

I think an invisible cisticola is responsible for the monotonous tinny call from the casuarinas at Norgrove.  All zzzzt and no ponk in that case.
