Today I decided to beat the heat in the National Art Gallery.  The blockbuster French exhibition was OK, but it paled into insignificance when I later went down to the East Asian Exhibition down on the lower ground level.  There, they have a Chinese silk coverlet (would cover a double bed) all exquisitely hand embroidered with innumerable species of birds.  There is no way I can do it justice by trying to describe it, but I have seen little in the National Gallery in the past 18 years to equal it.  I will have to go back and take something to sit on so that I can spend as much time as I want gazing at it.

And that part of the Gallery is FREE.
