Subject: [canberrabirds] Prof Mike Archer's lecture
On
26-11--2009 Tony Lawson passed on to the list a notice about Prof Mike Archer's
lecture at CSIRO's discovery yesterday. I first met Mike Archer when he gave a
series of lectures to my 3rd year Zoology class at LaTrobe Uni in 1977. Anyway the
curiuos and hard to identify object in the bottom left of the flyer was revealed
by him at the start to be the endocast of the cranium (in other
words the fossilised remains of the shape of the brain) of this
huge extinct bird called a terror duck or similar (Probably the one whose skull
is shown in the middle).

This may be of interest to some - it looks like a fossil of a
bird's beak in the illustration.
