On 26-11--2009 Tony Lawson passed on to the list a notice about Prof Mike Archer's lecture at CSIRO's discovery yesterday. I first met Mike Archer when he gave a series of lectures to my 3rd year Zoology class at LaTrobe Uni in 1977. Anyway the curiuos and hard to identify object in the bottom left of the flyer was revealed by him at the start to be the endocast of the cranium (in other words the fossilised remains of the shape of the brain) of this huge extinct bird called a terror duck or similar (Probably the one whose skull is shown in the middle).

This may be of interest to some - it looks like a fossil of a bird's beak in the illustration.
